Grant  Application Guidelines

Procedures
The Watertown Community Foundation awards grants to programs and projects in Watertown  which respond to needs in the areas of civic affairs, arts and culture, human service, education, health, and the environment.

Applicants may call or write the Foundation to request a copy of its Grant Application Summary. The staff is available to counsel with interested parties regarding the appropriateness of a project for consideration by the Foundation Board.  Final determination on all proposals is made by the Board with consideration for donor's wishes, community needs, and the proposing organization's capacity to provide effective service to the people of the area.

Applications are accepted at any time and are considered at the monthly Board meetings.

A Grant Use Report form is sent to all grant recipients for completion following expenditure of the funds. Site visits and direct reporting may also be part of the evaluation process.

Guidelines

• Only programs and projects in Watertown are eligible for funding.

• In general grants are made for start-up costs for a new program, the acquisition of equipment for an existing program, one-time projects, and for capital improvements.

• With the exception of scholarships, the Foundation does not make grants to individuals.

• Eight copies of the complete application must be submitted to the Foundation office.

• The completed application must include the Grant Application Summary and a brief narrative  describing the program or project and showing the budget for the proposal. Evidence of approval of the governing Board of the requesting organization is recommended.  Letters of support or other relevant materials may also be included.
