Introducing the 25th WACF Youth Council
May 6, 2026

The Watertown Area Community Foundation is proud to announce the newly elected members of its Youth Council for the 2026–2027 school year. This year also marks a special milestone as the Foundation’s Youth Council celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Incoming junior members elected to serve a two-year term are:
-
Harper Bastian, daughter of Matt & Melissa Bastian
-
Ashley Hauger, daughter of Chad & Jill Hauger
-
Braxton Tilberg, son of Eric & Becky Tilberg
They join returning senior members:
-
Abby Kruger, daughter of DeLyle and Wendy Kruger
-
Kate McElroy, daughter of Owen and Jenn McElroy
-
Owen Muller, son of Luke and Stephanie Muller
Youth Council members are selected for their leadership potential and interest in philanthropy and community engagement. During their term, students participate in service projects, learn about grantmaking, and award at least $10,000 annually to youth-serving nonprofits throughout the Watertown area.
In mid-May, current members welcomed the newly elected junior members during a Senior Sendoff Celebration and orientation. Council members also had the opportunity to experience the adaptive play equipment recently installed at Foundation Plaza.
Graduating seniors Siri Bach, Leila Byer, and Whitney Martinsen were recognized for their contributions and service as they complete their time on the Youth Council.
Since its founding in 2001, the Youth Council has awarded more than $233,000 in grants to youth-serving organizations, with 81 students having served on the council.
As the program enters its anniversary year in 2026–2027, the Foundation looks forward to celebrating the impact of Youth Council with alumni and the broader community while continuing to invest in the next generation of local leaders.
“Over the past 25 years, Youth Council has given students a firsthand look at the needs and opportunities that exist within our community,” said Cammie Mengwasser. “It’s been inspiring to watch these young leaders grow in confidence, compassion, and community awareness while making a real impact through their grantmaking and their service. We’re excited to welcome this new group of students as we celebrate this milestone year.”
