Foundation Awards Nearly $10,000 to Area Schools for Innovative Programs

May 15, 2025

The Watertown Area Community Foundation (WACF) recently awarded $9,914 in grants through its Area School Partnership Program, benefiting schools in Estelline, Florence, Hamlin, and Henry.

The Area School Partnership Program at the Foundation supports innovative school projects that fall outside the scope of regular school budgets. Since the program began in 2017, almost $75,000 has been awarded to area schools. This year’s funding is helping schools launch or expand programs in agriculture, art, weather science, and photography.

2025 Grant Recipients:

    • $2,596 to Estelline School District for equipment to establish a preparatory photography program.
    • $2,333 to Florence School District to support the Farm to School Lunch Program.
    • $2,485 to Hamlin Education Center for an onsite weather station.
    • $2,500 to Henry School District to establish a K-12 Art Program.

“These projects reflect the creativity of our local educators and the meaningful learning opportunities they bring to students,” said Cammie Mengwasser, WACF Executive Director. “This year in particular, we’re proud that Foundation grants helped expand vital programs—especially in areas like art and agriculture. Supporting our schools remains one of the most rewarding ways we can invest in the future of our community.”

Schools within approximately 30-miles of Watertown are eligible to apply for these grants. Previous grants have funded 3D printers, robot kits, sensory and de-escalation supplies, as well as music, cooking, and playground equipment.

Parenting Preparation – In 2024, Willow Lake School received a $2,500 grant to purchase Realityworks RealCare Baby Simulators, giving students a hands-on experience that closely mirrors real-life parenting.
